Shirley Laureen Dennison Calhoun, 83, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
She was born in Buffalo, NY on November 29, 1937, daughter of the late, George and Marion Dennison.
Shirley graduated in 1955 from McDowell High School. She was worked as switchboard operator for Bell Telephone and Sears Roebuck & Co. Volunteered at St. Joseph’s Home for Children and an usher for touring Broadway shows & plays at the Warner Theater.
She was a parishioner of St. Jude’s Church in Millcreek as well as an active member of PETA.
Shirley loved Elvis Presley, to working in her garden, taking long walks with beloved neighbor Flo Maries, and being a mother and a grandmother. She was affectionately known as ‘Granny’. Shirley was a kind & loving mother to her four children and cherished time with her ten grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce Beers and Judy Orcutt.
She is survived by her ex-husband, Rudy Calhoun, her brother, James Dennison, her sons, Gregory Calhoun (Mary Lou) and Gary Calhoun (Wendy), and daughters Debra Calhoun (David Grieneisen) and Amy Morrow (Ken Colburn) and grandchildren, Hali Machuga (Matt), Justin Calhoun, Jared Payne, Kaileigh Calhoun Scott (Merle), Katelyn Calhoun (Philip), Cameron Fish, Christian Calhoun, Bryan Calhoun, Caroline Calhoun and Abigail Morrow and four great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to the hard working staff of Pleasant Ridge Manor, including while not exclusion of, Michael, Autumn, Kristin, Jessie, Stacy, Patti and a close friend, Kerri Fiolek, for their compassionate and loving care of Shirley throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc. West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street on Monday, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Jude Church 2801 W. 6th Street, Erie PA 16505. Burial to follow in Calvary Mausoleum.
