SFC Leonard "Lenny" Wilczynski

SFC Leonard (Lenny) Wilczynski, US Army retired, age 87, of Erie passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at home. He was born in Erie on August 9, 1937, the son of the late John and Angela (Wierzchowski) Wilczynski.

Leonard was a graduate of Erie Tech H.S., Slippery Rock University, and attended Cameron State University and the University of Md 9 in Heidelberg, Germany.

Lenny was a veteran of the US Army and spent a total of 35 years in the Army and Army Reserves having served in Europe, Asia, Operation Desert Storm, and Vietnam. He later retired as an Army recruiter. Lenny was a member of the Siebenbuerger club and had pitched softball for 20 years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Swanson Wilczynski who died in 2022; four sisters, Mary Duda, Josephine Bartnik, Theresa Michalski, and Sr. M. Leonette Wilczynski, SHF; along with three brothers, Joseph, Raymond, and Frank Wilczynski. He was also preceded by his sisters-in-law, Harriet DiGello and Delva Podmore and his brothers-in-law, Ralph and John (Jack) Swanson.

Leonard is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews along with a host of special friends.

Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W.26th St. on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm with further visitation on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Services at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
