Sean Francis Scully, 54, passed away peacefully in Sherman Oaks, Calif., on June 22, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Erie, Pa., on Sept. 19, 1961, he was a 1979 graduate of Cathedral Prep high school and a 1983 graduate of Edinboro University. Sean excelled in basketball and football and served as a coach to his children’s youth sports teams, including in the Bay City Football League of the Boys and Girls Club of Erie.
In 1994, Sean took over the family business, Scully Enterprises, located on West Ridge Road in Erie. He expanded the business to include Lake Erie Rubber Works and served as president of both companies. He divided his time between California and Pennsylvania.
Sean was a member of the Erie Club, the Erie Yacht Club, the Erie Maennerchor Club and St. George Catholic Church. He enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time on Lake Erie. Most of all, he adored and loved his children.
He now joins his sister Colleen, brother Bill and parents, Betty Jane and Hubert “Hoot” Scully, in eternal life. A beloved father and brother, he is survived by his two children, Sean of Sherman Oaks and Rachel of Erie; his sisters, Eileen Conboy (Tim) of Syracuse, N.Y., Maureen Glassmacher (Ken) of Fairfax Station, Va., Mary Beth Manso (Sal) of Northbrook, Ill., and Erin Rush (Doug) of Fredericksburg, Va.; his brothers, Terry, Tim (Lynnet) and Kevin, all of Erie, Patrick (Nancy) of Stuart, Fla., Tom (Karil) of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Steve (Katie) of Fairfax Station; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are welcome to attend calling hours at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, 728 West 9th St. in Erie, on Monday, June 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Msgr. Henry Kriegel will preside over a Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life on Tuesday, June 28, at St. Patrick's Church, 130 East 4th Street, at 11:00 a.m.
