Sara Nixon

February 17, 1938 — January 20, 2017

Sara “Sally” Lacey Nixon, age 78, of Fairview and formerly of Painesville, OH, passed away on Friday January 20, 2017 at home surrounded by family.

She was born in Conneaut, OH on February 17, 1938, a daughter to the late Miller and Ruth Aikens Lacey.

Sara was a 1956 graduate of Conneaut High School and went on to earn a degree in Education as an Alden Scholar from Allegheny College in 1960. She taught for two years in Painesville, OH, and wed Alton J. Nixon, to whom she was married for 56 years. Sara was a devoted wife and mother and was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church in Erie, PA. She enjoyed bowling and golf and was a member of the Welcome Club of Erie for 16 years and Lake Shore Country Club for 17 years.

The family would like to thank Sally’s caregiver team of Laurie, Holly, Dan, Gail, Lisa and Julie for the wonderful care and compassion during this transition.

In addition to her husband, Alton J. “Pete” Nixon, Sara is survived by her daughters: Katherine C. Nixon Nolan (James), Kimberly J. Podgurski (John), and grandchildren: Clayton E. Nolan (Leah), Caitlin E. Nolan, Johnny A. Podgurski, and Ashley M. Podgurski. She is further survived by a brother, William H. Lacey, a sister in law, Diane Lacey, and cousin, Mrs. Judy Stebbins.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, in Girard on Monday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and are invited to services on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1208 Asbury Rd.
