Sara Mae Dishinger Nielsen, 87, of Erie, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at UPMC Hamot. She was born February 27, 1927, in Erie, daughter of the late Henry and Maude Hennes Dishinger. A 1944 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, she worked for First National Bank for five years. She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church where she belonged to the lady's circle. She also belonged to Glenwood YMCA, enjoyed playing cards, listening to music and playing piano and organ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Carl J. Nielsen, in 1991; and a brother, Donald Dishinger.
Survivors include a son, John W. Nielsen and wife Cheryl of North East; four daughters, Carolyn Jarmin and husband George of Lyons, CO, and Sue Platz and husband Michael, Janet Honard and husband Andrew, and Christine Gannoe and fiancée Jim, all of Erie; five grandchildren, Justin Gannoe and fiancée Kolby, Timothy Platz, Brittany Gannoe and fiancée Jonathan, and Amy Platz, all of Erie, and Sara Nielsen of North East; two great-grandchildren, Cadence and Emma Gannoe of Erie; sister-in-law, Esther Nielsen of Erie; brother-in-law, John Miller of Newark, DE; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is private at the convenience of the family. Friends may attend a funeral service at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1603 West 32nd Street, Erie, PA 16508, Tuesday at 12:00 Noon with the Rev. Karen A. Lundwall officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
