Sandra “Sandi” Jean Leone Neumaier, age 74, died Tuesday January 16, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family after a graceful four-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert W. Neumaier. Devoted mother to Nancy (Fred) Bird of Erie, Susan (David) Haynes of Spring, TX, Amy (Thomas) Krysa of Highlands Ranch, CO and Deborah Neumaier of Erie and her special “8” grandchildren who were the light of her life, Zachary, Nicholas, and Natalie Bird, Benjamin and Jared Haynes, John, Joseph and Samuel Krysa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis “Art” Leone and Helen Yesue Leone and her brother-in-law, David Luke.
Sandi graduated from Strong Vincent High School and Mercyhurst College. She worked at Homebuilder’s Association, American Sterilizer and National Fuel. She was a longtime member of St. Luke Church where she attended daily mass. She also volunteered at The Caring Place.
She enjoyed quilting and sewing, had a keen eye for decorating, was a master at finding the perfect gift, and loved having fun with girlfriends including the “Sew What?”s, bridge girls, coffee girls, and many other lifelong best friends. Most important to her was the unique bond she had with each of her daughters and the special place she had in her heart for each of her grandchildren. Known to more than just her own as “Gramma Sandi”, she shared her generous and kind heart with many.
The family expresses deep gratitude to all the healthcare providers that took good care of Sandi, especially Dr. Herbert Zeh, Dr. Joseph Deimel, the Regional Cancer Center staff and the VNA Hospice staff. Special thanks to Fr. John Malthaner for his compassion and spiritual guidance.
