Mr. Sam Barber passed away peacefully on March 2nd at Forestview Nursing Home in Erie.
Sam is preceded in death by his wife, Ginny, to whom he was married for 78 years. In 2013, they moved from Saegertown, PA, to Erie and resided at SpringHill Senior Living. Sam was born in Uniontown, PA.
Sam and Ginny were married in 1947, and together they raised four wonderful daughters. Sam worked as a financial planner for Prudential, receiving numerous awards and accolades for his exceptional insight in the financial world. After retiring at age 80, Sam and Ginny loved traveling across the United States and Mexico, leaving a trail of friends in every city they visited.
Sam was a great provider and mentor to all who knew and loved him. He could challenge anyone at horseshoes and was even known for achieving a hole-in-one on the golf course. He was quite the character, known for his storytelling and for sharing his financial insight and advice with everyone.
Sam is the last of the great generation in his immediate family. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia (Ginny), and his granddaughter, Shayna Lea Stefanik. He leaves behind his four daughters: Sandy (Don) Shrader, Sherry (Pat) McDonald, Debbie Wallace, and Cyndie (John) Stefanik; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as Papa Sam.
Friends may call on the family at Burton Quinn Scott, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, on Saturday, March 8, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
