Sally Lund

April 11, 1930 — October 12, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Sally Ann Lund announce her passing on October 12, 2022, in Erie PA.  Born in Buffalo, NY in the Spring of 1930 to Augustus and Carrie Ammerman Schillo, she was the youngest of six children.  At age four her father passed away making for a tight knit family that spent summers in Allegany State Park.  Growing up in Buffalo and graduating from Holy Angels Academy and attending University of Buffalo where she met her husband of 58 years, David Harrison Lund, these experiences helped shape her life for family, adventure, and community.

Mrs. Lund’s life’s motto was Carpe Diem, with a deep connection to faith, love of family and a dedication to her communities. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, The Cathedral of St Paul in Erie PA and in later years a communicant at St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Sanibel, Fla.
An enthusiastic supporter of all her children’s endeavors whether it be medicine, theater, skiing, outdoor sports, dance, or law.  She lived a thespian career vicariously through her daughter Carrie rarely missing one of Carrie’s debuts.

Her life with husband David was a love affair and marriage with many adventures. The Lund couple traveled to far off lands from Western Europe to New Zealand, skiing in the Alps to the Rocky Mountains, sailing the Great Lakes to the Caribbean, and they enjoyed a competitive game of tennis. Their marriage was a team effort as she was the inspiration and David was the perspiration. Sally would come up with some crazy ideas like having a barn raising party and David would figure out the “how-to”. In their later years Sally and David summered at their beloved cottage in East Springfield PA “22 Chains” and wintered at Sanibel Florida where they truly basked in retirement. Socializing with friends, walking the beaches of Sanibel, and hosting family events were Sally’s favorite activities.
The communities of Erie and Sanibel will feel her passing as she was a dedicated activist and leader in many community organizations including the Erie Art Museum, Players Circle Theatre in Florida, Girl Scouts of America, Junior League of Erie, and Zonta in Florida.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and five siblings. She is survived by her four children Peter Lund, Carrie Lund Cacioppo, Amy Jane Lund, and David Lund Jr. She further is survived by ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
