Ruth Young

Ruth F. Young, age 81, peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at UPMC Hamot with family by her side.

Ruth was born in Curtisville, Pennsylvania on May 6, 1941, daughter of the late John and Mary Makuta Filo. Ruth and her late husband Donald F. Young, who passed away on May 5, 2014, were married on September 26, 1964 and moved to Erie in 1966 where Ruth worked at several local organizations then retired from FedEx where she had worked for several years as a customer service agent. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and was active in the Rosary Society, OLP Senior Group, and Resurrection Choir, and, separately, was active in the Coterie Club of Erie and Asbury Seniors Group.

Ruth loved spending time with her family as well as friends at the Mercy Terrace Apartments. She also enjoyed music, polka dancing, social activities and gardening.

Along with her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother David J. Filo in 1969.

Ruth is survived by her three sons, Brian Young and his wife Jessica, Keith Young and his wife Jamie, all of Erie, and Jeffrey Young and his wife Angela of Winter Garden, Florida, and four grandchildren, Nathan Young and fiancé Maddi of Erie, Gabriel Young of Sharon, Pennsylvania, and Zachary and Abigail Young of Winter Garden, Florida. In addition, Ruth is survived by an aunt and an extended family of cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 5 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th Street, on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM.  Services will be live streamed on the Our Lady of Peace Church You Tube Channel at https://youtu.be/I-grckeaSjo.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff and community of the Mercy Terrace Apartments as well as the medical staff of UPMC Hamot for the dedicated care and support provided to Ruth.
