Ruth Marie (Lambert) Shapter, a resident of Erie for 63 years, died March 2, 2024 at St. Mary’s Home Asbury. She was 102 years old, born at home in Ironton, Ohio on August 7, 1921, the sixth of ten children born to Richard S. and Anna E. (Lyon) Lambert.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 42 years David E. Shapter, and seven sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her two sons, David (Beverly) of Erie, and Thomas (Cheryl) of Derby, NY, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth graduated from Ironton High School in 1939, was a licensed cosmetologist/beautician for more than 50 years and a dedicated, loving housewife and mother. Ruth was a 67 year member of The First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and active into her 90s. She loved sewing and quilting and was an avid member of the Hands All Around Quilt Guild, the Erie Civic Music Association, The Woman’s Club of Erie, and her local Bridge clubs. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, enjoyed gardening, camping, bird watching and taking trips to The Smoky Mountains. Ruth loved getting together for family reunions every year and the occasional breakfast on the beach at the Peninsula.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Burton Quinn Scott West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St. Erie from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM until time of funeral service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Britney Knight officiating. Burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 4523 Love Rd, Erie.
