Ruth Margaret (Etter) Mallory, 102, formerly of 6108 Peach Street, Erie, died at Ball Pavilion following a brief illness. In recent years she had lived in Edinboro with her grandson, Thomas Mallory, and later with her granddaughter, Michele (Mallory) Lewis, also of Edinboro.
A resident of the Erie area for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Lena (Simon) and Louis Etter. She was born on her parents’ dairy farm on Etter Road in Greene Township on October 7, 1911.
One of seven brothers and sisters, Ruth was preceded in death by brothers Ivan, Herbert, and Arthur Etter; and sisters Evelyn Buetikofer, Eleanor Etter, and Clara Ralston.
Her husband John F. Mallory, who retired from Hammermill Paper Company, died in 1982. Surviving members of her immediate family include two sons: Thomas Mallory (Jane) of Erie and John Mallory (Susanne) of Saratoga, California. She had one grandson: Thomas Mallory II (Jennifer) of Edinboro, three granddaughters: Holly Mallory Fidrych (Robert) of Campbell, CA; Stacy Mallory Tredennick (Scott) of Danville, CA; and Michele Mallory Lewis (Mark) of Edinboro; seven great-grandchildren: Megan D’Andrea, Noelle, Brett and April Mallory of Edinboro; Ryan and Jonathan Cole Tredennick of Danville, CA; and Mallory and Robert Fidrych of Campbell, CA.
A member of Luther Memorial Church, Ruth had served as a Constable of Election in Kearsarge, was a volunteer with the Perry Highway Hose Company, and was a member of the Albion Senior Center.
Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Road Erie, PA 16510, on Sunday July 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held there on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Deacon Mary Lord officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
A memorial service at Luther Memorial Church is being planned for August 22nd, 2014 at 11 a.m. so that out of town family may attend.
