Ruth M. Hinkson

Ruth Margaret Hinkson age 99, of Erie, and formerly at the Regency, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Elmwood Gardens. 

She was born in Wesleyville, Pa on September 17, 1924, a daughter of the late John, Sr. and Loretta Bevernitz Shover. 

She was a graduate of McKean High School. 

Ruth had been employed at Lord Manufacturing and at the Millcreek School District where she worked for 20 years until her retirement in 1987. 

She was a founding member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church now Abiding Hope Lutheran Church. Ruth was also a volunteer with Chosen and a member of Eriez Teepee Toters Camping Club. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Hinkson; five brothers, Earl, John, Jr., Harold, Chester and Lincoln Shover; a sister, Loretta Hanna and a son-in-law, Frank E. Swanson.  

She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Swanson and Beverly Daniloff and her husband William all of Erie; two sons, Harry Hinkson and his wife Cheryl of Erie and Mark Hinkson and his wife Trina of Marietta, GA; nine grandchildren, Lisa Haight, Carrie Swanson Kalka, Aimee Swanson Septjian, Julie Hinkson Ross, Thomas Hinkson, Courteney Hinkson, Kristin Hinkson Baecher, Kirsten Anderson Brooks, and Robert Anderson; 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Elmwood Gardens for the wonderful care that Ruth received. 

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge 3801 W. 26^th Street on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday at Abiding Hope Lutheran Church 2402 W. Grandview, Blvd, Erie, Pa 16509 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chosen Mission Project 3642 West 26^th Street, Erie PA 16506 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.
