Ruth Love

Ruth I. Stevenson Love, age 92, of Erie, died on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. She was born in Erie, PA on November 16, 1921, the only child of the late Clarence E. and Ida Schumacher Stevenson.

Ruth graduated from West Millcreek High School in 1940. In high school, she sang in the girls’ trio. She married her husband Harry Love, Jr a year after graduating. And shortly thereafter the role of motherhood became her purpose in life. She was a faith filled woman who instilled those beliefs in her children and family. She was a baker extraordinaire and loved being around family. She was a talented artist and enjoyed traveling by car and bus.

Ruth was a member Westminster Presbyterian Church and past member of the West Ridge Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her step-father Earl Bach, son-in-law Edward Lenz, granddaughter Karen Andersen, and great grandson Richard Michaels, III.

She is survived her husband of 73 years, Harry Love, Jr.; her four children: Kathleen A. (Vincent) Kelly of Hornell, NY, Carol (Steve) Daley of Union City, Joann (Donald) Dickey of Naples, FL, and Harry “Chip” (Mary Lou) Love III of Erie; Eleven grandchildren: Richard Michaels, Jr, Victoria Mitchell, Steven Michaels, Julie Kline, Pamela Poe, Tina Hilinski, Kelly Jackson, Heather Love, Holly Walczak, Harry Love IV, and Jessie Love; twenty four great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister-in-law Edith Love, brother-in-law Clifford Hammer and many step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on the family on Tuesday Sept 9th from 2pm until the time of the service at 4pm at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave.). Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 1022 Liberty St, Erie, PA 16502 or the West Ridge Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary, 3142 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
