Ruth Harden

September 23, 1940 — October 19, 2016

Ruth Barnes Harden, age 76, of Erie, transitioned from labor to reward on October 19, 2016. She was born in Collins, MS on September 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Elijah and Lovie Magee Barnes.

Ruth was a 1958 graduate of Collins High School and went on to be employed by Bliley Electric where she retired in 2009 after 42 years.

She was a member of the Cherry Street Church of God. Ruth was an avid bowler and loved gardening, singing and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Larry Harden, three sisters, Ruby McLaurin, Kay Kiadii and Gloria Fay Barnes, and her brother, Elijah Junior Barnes.

Ruth is survived by three brothers, Albert (Cynthia Jones) Barnes of Erie, Willie (JoAnn) Barnes and Walter (Mildred) Barnes, both of Collins, MS, two sisters, Florence Barnes of Erie, and Gladys Badger of Atlanta, GA, one brother-in-law, Reverend Richard Harden (Irell) and two sisters-in-law, Betty Reed and Olive Ray Crumbley. She is further survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home 602 W. 10th Street (at Cherry St.) on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and are invited to a service at Saint John’s Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
