Ruth Giebfried

Ruth Marie Giebfried, age 98, of Niagara Village in Erie and formerly of Queens Village, New York, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Millcreek Manor. Born in New York, New York in King’s County Ruth was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Anna L Schillinger Steffens.

She was a graduate of Hunter College in 1936 and was a teacher with the Baldwin Public Schools on Long Island. Ruth was a devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of Peace Church, while living in Erie these past few years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wm Giebfried in 1991.

Ruth is survived by three sons, John Giebfried and his wife Nancy, of Erie, James Giebfried and his wife Sandi, of Norfolk, MA and Joseph Giebfried and his wife Rosemary, of Bangor, ME; six grandchildren, four in Bangor, ME, one in Erie and one in Ft. Worth, TX. She is further survived by six great grandchildren, two in Erie and four in Fort Worth.

Private services will be in New York City at a later date. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, NY

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 2816 Elmwood Avenue Erie, PA 16508.
