Ruth Getz

Ruth M. Getz, of Fairview passed away after a wonderful life at the age of 98.

She was born September 24, 1918 in Erie, daughter of the late C. Burr and Bertha Brown Osborn.

She was a 1936 graduate of Academy High School and a graduate of Erie Commercial College.  She was a farmer’s wife for many many years, helping work and run the Getz family farm in Fairview. She also worked Bucyrus Erie for 3 years in the office.

She belonged to Fairview Presbyterian Church where she served and helped on many committees, she was a member of the Fairview Historical Society where she quilted, and the Fairview PTA, and Card Club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Sherwood Getz and one sister, Evelyn L. Osborn.

She is survived by her son, James S. Getz and his wife Gail of Fairview; a daughter Joyce A. Getz of Fairview; two grandchildren Stephen B. Getz and his partner Tina Mikovich of East Springfield, and Erica A. Howder and her husband Scott, of Locust Grove, VA; four great grandchildren, Ashtyn, Ethan, Owen, and Ryleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard on Friday from 3 to 6 pm and on Saturday from 10am until the time of service at 11am, with Rev. Lee Pomeroy.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
