Ruth Marie Buckel Considine, age 91, of Erie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. She was born on June 2, 1925 in Erie the daughter of the late Edmund and Marie Renner Buckel. A lifelong resident of Erie, she had attended East High School and graduated from St. Benedict Academy.
Ruth was a gifted knitter and seamstress who also loved to cook. She enjoyed reading and in her later years watching “Little House on the Prairie. She and her husband John also sang in the choir at St. John Church for a number of years. They also took many trips to Texas and Indiana to visit family. Later in life they enjoyed leisurely rides around the peninsula. Ruth and her husband John were married for 70 years, something that their children were extremely proud of.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Buckel and a daughter –in-law, Cindy Ellis Considine.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years and main caregiver, John W. Considine; their five children; James Considine of Erie; Judy (George) Kopec of Erie; Cathy (David) Stemmler of Edinboro; Jack Considine of Houston, TX, and Jerry Considine (Cheryl) of Anderson, IN. She had nine grandchildren who were a joy to her; Shaun (Valerie) Stemmler, Chad (Brianne) Stemmler, Eric, Kim, Keith, Aaron, Lisa, and Ryan Considine. Also surviving are great-grandchildren; Alexis, Zoe, Gavin, Emmett, Dane and Anthony along with her sister, Mary Lou (Bill) Fogle and sister-in-law, Winnie Buckel.
Ruth’s family would like to thank the Great Lakes Hospice team that took such excellent care of her-especially Karen and Melanie.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Friday from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. George Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
