Ruth Blair

Ruth Caughey Blair, 97, of Millcreek, passed away at Saint Mary’s at Asbury Ridge Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.

She was born March 3, 1917 to Frank and Belle Donor Caughey who were descendants of the Caughey’s who emigrated from Ireland to Lancaster, PA then to Millcreek. The homestead in which she was born, built in 1826, still stands on Caughey Road.

Ruth graduated from Millcreek High School and upon graduation from Jamestown Business College, Ruth was secretary to the president of the Protane Company for 8 years, following which she worked for various principals in the Millcreek School District for 37 years, retiring in 1981.

Ruth was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the PA Association of School Retirees.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years Joseph , and her four siblings Dorothy, John, Miles and David Caughey.

She is survived by one niece Janet ( James) Cater, two great nieces Susan (Wayne) and Nancy (Patrick); five great great nieces and nephews Jamison (Ashley), Lindsay, Brett, Kathleen and Jennifer and one great great great nephew Dustin.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 29 from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church 3642 West 26th Street Erie, PA 16506 with Reverend John Dyke officiating.

Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Debbie and the caregivers of Saint Mary’s Home who treated her with much love, care, and respect. They also wish to thank her special friends Natalya Hahn and Adrienne Anto who filled her days with letters, gifts, and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church 3642 West 26th Street Erie, PA 16506 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street Erie, PA 16506.
