Russell R. Phelps, age 88, of Erie, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Sarah Reed Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born November 14, 1935, in Erie, the son of the late Ray Walter and Irene Anker Phelps. Russell was a 1955 graduate of Tech Memorial High School and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Phelps was a pattern maker and machinist working for Skinner Engine, National Forge, Lord Corp., Tanner Mfg., Keystone Foundry, and Erie Casting Co. He also owned and operated Russ Tile Service for 13 years, worked in the Maintenance Dept. at Mercyhurst College, and worked for United Parcel Service. Russell most recently drove bus for Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority for 18 years, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, Zukor Club, and South Erie Turners.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn A. Yochim Phelps, by his sister Arlene Edmonds.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Phelps of Erie, by a nephew Todd Edmonds and wife Becky, and their children, Cody, and Emma of OK, by his niece, Melodie Anderson and husband Richard and their children, Kelsey, and Tyler, all of OK. Russell is further survived by his special friends Sue and Tim Church, and Therapy Dog Maggie, we will truly miss that smile.

Friends are invited to a funeral service Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Erie County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum 7880 Edinboro Road, Erie, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. Downtown, 602 W. 10th Street, Erie.
