Ruby Byes

Ruby Jean Byes, age 67, of Erie, transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Vincent Medical Center.

Ruby was born on February 28, 1949, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Willie Byes and Thelma Page Byes.

Ruby was employed by Hamot Medical Center and Stairways Behavioral Health. She was a former member of the Holy Trinity C.O.G.I.C.

Ruby was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.

Ruby loved going to the casino and out to dinner. She was known amongst the family for baking 7-up pound cakes and assorted pies. Ruby had a close relationship with God and was loved by everyone she came in contact with.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her four brothers; Steve (S.T.) Smith Sr., Earnest Byes, Clifford (Bubba) Smith, Jr. and August (Paul) Byes.

Ruby leaves to cherish in memory her six children; two sons: Dwayne Byes, Sr. (Heidi) and Willie Marcel Byes of Long Beach, CA; four daughters; Jacqueline (David) Jones of Huntsville, AL, April Byes-Sims, Sonya Byes, Ebony Byes, all of Erie, and Pierre André Jones, of Huntsville, AL; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Jeannette L. Egana (William) Tyson, of Orlando, FL; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thanks to her caregiver and grandson Marion Sanders, Jr. She is also survived by her good friend Yolanda Avery of Erie.

A private service and burial will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016.

Friends may join the family on May 19, 2016 at 554 East 15th St. at 4 pm.
