Roy Nordin

October 8, 1919 — February 12, 2021

Roy Hjalmer Nordin, age 101, passed away peacefully at UPMC Hamot on February 12, 2021.

Roy was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on October 8, 1919, son of the late Hjalmer and Anna Osbeck Nordin.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years Alice Swenson Nordin and his second wife Helen Adams Snook Nordin, sister Dagny and brothers Ralph, Eric, Martin, Elmer, Bill, Dave and Donald.

Roy graduated from Academy High School in 1937. Following high school he worked for Swanson Tool. He then worked as a salesman for Erie Crate Company for 50 years ending his career as Vice President in charge of sales before retiring. Family and friends close with Roy would often be gifted a personalized milk crate to use for college or storage as a memento.

Roy’s greatest passions were golf and music. He played golf all of his life and won the Erie District Golf City Championship in 1950. He loved to listen to jazz music and enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Alice. Family and friends always enjoyed their visits with Roy listening to his stories, words of wisdom and jokes. Roy loved his church, Grace Baptist, where he got married and attended with his wife Alice for many years. Later he spent many of his mornings eating breakfast at Bob Evans on West 12th Street where he developed close friendships with staff and patrons.

Survivors include sister in law’s Judy (Don) Nordin and Eleanor (Martin) Nordin and step children Mary Carol (Bob) Williams, Judy (Tim) Zelina, and Tom (Chris) Snook and their families. Roy not having any children of his own adopted in spirit many surviving nieces, nephews, and god children that he dearly loved
