Rosemary T. (Stoeber) Heintz, age 89, of Erie died peacefully Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Manor. She was born October 31, 1925 in Erie the daughter of the late Charles C. and Mary Kenny Stoeber.
As a student at Strong Vincent High School, Rosemary excelled in math, and after graduation, was a bookkeeper for several businesses in the Erie area including the Marx Toy Company and Carlisle’s Department Store. She later worked as a clerk at Candy World Book City for many years. Mrs. Heintz also worked as a caregiver for many elderly individuals, sharing her faith and gentle spirit with them.
In 1950, she married our Dad and they began their family life together. They gave us a firm foundation in our faith and we are grateful for this gift.
Our mother was an active member of St. Andrew parish, being involved as a member of the Ladies’ Guild and the Catholic Daughters, Court Erie, #515 since 1996. Along with her mother, she was a member of the Sacred Heart league. She was also a member of the Cursillo movement. In the 1970’s, she joined the local People for Life movement to show her belief in and reverence for all human life, especially the unborn. She made the annual bus trip to Washington, DC on January 22 to visit her elected representatives and show her support for pro-life issues. She was a faithful member of this group until her health began to fail.
Our mother loved having all the neighborhood kids gather at our house. Even when we weren’t there, our friends would come and hang out with Mom or play a game of chess with Dad. Our childhood was truly one of fun, friendship, and love.
Mom loved to spend time with her grandchildren, babysitting and spoiling them. She was a “hands-on” grandma who played on the floor with them, took them on outings with our Dad, and went on rides at Waldameer with them, having as much fun as they did. She and Dad went to Florida as often as they could to spend time with their grandchildren near Tampa. Mom loved sweets of all kinds, especially peppermint patties, and was known to finish a huge bag of popcorn at a single sitting. She was an active walker and often walked back and forth to Gridley Park from her home on West Fifth St. Rosemary could never resist a good garage sale, and would often brag about how little she spent to get a designer skirt or some-thing useful for her grandchildren. Mom was delighted when her first great-granddaughter, Delaney, was born in March of 2013.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Heintz in 2004; a brother Charles Stoeber, Jr. and a sister, Sr. Charles Frances O.S.F.
Rosemary is survived by her four children; Cathy Dudenhoefer and her husband Gary of Fairview; Margaret Ann Olszewski and her husband Edward of Erie; Howard M. Heintz, Jr. and his wife Mary of Riverview, FL and Mark A. Heintz of Erie. She is the sister and lifelong companion of Elizabeth Barron of Erie and is the grandmother of Amy Cook (Mike); Michael Heintz; Angela Andrews (Gabe); Nicholas, Christopher, and Jospeh Olszewski. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Delaney Cook and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 12:30 PM followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM in St. Andrew Catholic Church.
