Rosemarie Jenkins Marshall passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015, in Erie at her residence.
She was born on June 14, 1926 in Scranton, PA to the late Willard E. Jenkins and Rose Breunig Jenkins.
She married her late beloved husband, Dr. Jack H. Marshall, M.D. on April 7, 1956 at Elm Park Methodist Church in Scranton.
She graduated as an honor student from Scranton Central High School in 1944. In 1948 she graduated on the dean’s list with honors from Keuka College, Keuka Park, New York with an A.B. degree in Sociology and History and a minor in English and Physical Education. She did graduate studies at Penn State main campus. While at Keuka, she was a team member for various sports including field hockey, basketball, softball, and crew on Lake Keuka.
She taught secondary education and swimming at the Grier School for girls, a boarding school in Tyrone, Pennsylvania.
Because of her life long membership with Girl Scouting and earning the highest award for many summers, she camp counseled, and was program director for the Scranton’s Camp Archbald, a camp with capacity for two hundred girls.
With her vast experience in Girl Scouting and Camping, she was recommended by the National Scout Office to be Field Director in the Erie County for Western Erie, Waterford, Union City, Wattsburg, and Corry. Girl Scout camping, became popular within the Erie region. The Curtze Cabin was built at Camp Hawthorne Ridge with her recommendation. She was a Girl Scout Leader with the Wayside Church.
She became District Director for leadership training and camping for the Wilmington, Delaware Girl Scout Council covering most of the state of Delaware.
Rosemarie was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, and a member of the Erie County Medical Alliance and Family of Pennsylvania, and American Medical Alliances. She was Vice President and President of the Florence Crittenden Board of Directors, a home for unwed mothers. As President, and with the aide of the late Dr. Gertrude Barber, she advised the Erie School Board on the hiring of two teachers for classes at the home, at a time when no unwed mothers were permitted to attend classes in regular school.
She was a board member of the Glenwood YMCA for many years under Max Darone and Ed Dall. She was a member of several figure skating clubs in the Cleveland area while her children trained for gold medals in figures, freestyle, pairs and dance.
She was a member of the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center Board of Directors for over twenty years, and various committees there.
She was a member of the Erie Yacht Club and Maennerchor Club.
Her interests included bowling, gardening, crafting, and traveling.
Rosemarie was preceded in death by her loving parents, devoted husband, Dr. Jack H. Marshall and a brother, William Jenkins.
Rosemarie is survived by two sons, Jeffery (Elizabeth) Marshall, of Olmsted Falls, OH, Kim Marshall, fiancée Paula Fenton, and daughter Madeleine, of North Olmsted, OH; daughter, Andrea (John) DiNardo of Erie, PA; four grandchildren, Stephen (Erica) Marshall of Olmsted Township, OH, Thomas (Brenda) Marshall of Strongsville, OH, Jackson Marshall of Olmstead Falls, OH and Danica Marshall, of Olmstead Falls, OH. She is further survived by sister in law, Mrs. William Jenkins of Scranton, PA; nephew, Warren (Vicki) Jenkins of FL, and niece Barbara (David) Cotton of SC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Rosemarie would like to thank the staff of both Great Lakes Hospice and Home Instead for their extended care.
