Rosella Shannon

April 12, 1925 — September 16, 2024

Girard

Rosella Griffin Vincent Shannon, age 99, of Girard, passed away surrounded by family on September 16, 2024, at the Walnut Creek Nursing Facility.

She was born on Easter Sunday 04/12/1925 on the High Decker Farm in Waterford, the daughter of the late John and Mary Manning Griffin of Wattsburg.

Rosella was a simple woman that did not need a lot to be happy. She loved being with her family and making memories with them. She enjoyed going out to eat with family, most of the time she would just order herself a cheeseburger and coffee. For dessert her favorite choice was vanilla ice cream and pumpkin pie.

Rosella would often be found crocheting, coloring and repurposing furniture that she came across. She also enjoyed taking car rides, listening to music and reminiscing about old times.

Rosella, being a GI wife, was known in McComb, MS for turning a roller-skating rink into a makeshift apartment for incoming GI wives. She also traveled to Romona, CA where she turned a chicken coop into a home for her family. She was very creative and resourceful and would turn simple things into useful household items. She was known to be quite the handyman using everything from a sewing machine to powers tools. Rosella and her late husband worked on various homes in Erie, and they even laid the tile floor in Sullivan Café in Erie, PA.

Rosella traveled across the United States with her 5 babies in tow until the passing of her late husband Anthony Vincent in October 1967. She then returned to Erie, Pa where she independently raised her children and grandchildren. She was well known in the lower west side community for delivering newspapers and lending a helping hand to those in need.

Rosella was very proud of her Irish heritage and very strong in her catholic religion. She would bless everyone she encountered. She would say she loved you from the bottom of her Irish Heart. Her nicknames were “my little leprechaun” or “Grandma Rose.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Anthony Vincent and her late husband, Robert Vincent.

She is survived by her four beloved daughters, Rosemary Burroughs and spouse Harry, Harriet Gilbert and spouse Robert, Kathleen Perry and spouse Plummer, Robin Enstrom (the bird) and spouse Richard. She is also survived by her beloved granddaughter and caretaker Jessica Molczan and her spouse Michael, and other grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her rescued dog Jinky.

Thank you to Heartland Hospice (Gentiva Hospice) for all your help and support in taking care of Rosella in her final moments. Specifically, MaryAnn (retired), Kat, Jessica, Chuck, Carly, Chelsea, and Beth. Also, thanks to the caregivers, Tina, Sherry, Missy, Michelle, Axle, Roberta, and Lori for all the love and support shown to our dear Rosella.
