Rose Mcgarry

November 20, 1947 — July 30, 2018

Rose M. Hildum McGarry, age 70, of Erie, passed away on Monday July 30, 2018 at her son’s home.

She was born in Erie, PA on November 20, 1947, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Daugherty Hildum.

Rose graduated from McDowell High School in 1965.

She retired from what is now Elmwood Gardens after 11 years where she was a Certified Nursing Associate and was known for her loving care of all the residents, retiring in 2013. She also was known for her work as a nail care specialist for 25 years.

Rose and her husband Myron “Myrt”, who she had been married for 47 years and had passed on January 27, 2017 were longtime members of St. Luke Catholic Church.

Rose was known as “Mama Rose” to so many including all her family and their friends, her affection and caring ways extended to strangers and also to many four legged friends she encountered throughout her life. She was always caring for others before her own needs and did so without wanting or needing to be in the spotlight. She was a compass for so many who wanted and needed advice and counsel, and was always willing to help. She loved traveling, spending time in nature, and custom card making with her friends and family. 

Above all, Rose loved her sons, their wives and her grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by so many who loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband “Myrt”.

She is survived by her sons, Todd and his wife Janella, Brad and his wife Aimee, and Ryan and his wife Heather; eleven grandchildren; and further survived by seven brothers and two sisters. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd on Thursday August 2nd from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday August 3rd at 10:00 am with Rev. John Malthaner, presiding.

Interment will be private at Whispering Pines Cremation Garden.
