Ronald J. Riddle, 85, of Freeport, died peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's disease on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Butler, Pa. He was born on December 22, 1931, in Hutchinson, Pa., son of the late James and Theresa Komatz Riddle. A 1949 graduate of Sewickley Twp. High School, Herminie, Pa., he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in the Korean Conflict. Ron was formerly of Oakmont, Pa. moving to Freeport in 1970. He worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Brackenridge, Pa. retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Mary, Mother of God Church, Freeport, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, 32nd Degree member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh and Armstrong Lodge No. 239 F.& A.M. He was a life member of the Freeport Sportsman Club as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Freeport. Ron enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, watching sports, and going to the family cottage in Forest County. Ron was a private man but was a fiercely loyal and dedicated husband, stepfather, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald A. Riddle and Eric J. Riddle.
Survivors include the love of his life and wife of 47 years, Jane J. Scripps Scott Riddle; a son, James Riddle and wife Charlene of Madison, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Riddle of Erie; two stepsons, W. James Scott, Jr. and wife Denise of Erie, Pa. and David L. Scott and wife Cindy of Freeport; a sister, Ruth Boatman of LaCanada, Calif.; sister-in-law, Betty A. Bell of Summerfield, FL; four grandsons, Jeremy Scott and wife Amy of Madison, Alabama, Dr. Jared Scott of Erie, Pa., Dr. Justin Scott and wife Beth of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jacob Scott of Palm Coast, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
At Ron's request, services are private at the convenience of the family with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
