Ronald Manchester

November 29, 1930 — April 12, 2018

Ronald “Toby” Manchester, age 87 of Edinboro, and formerly of Dewittville, NY, North Fort Myers, FL and Fairview, passed away Thursday, April 12th  at Edinboro Manor.

He was born in Fairview, PA on November 29, 1930, the son of the late James Glenn and CarraBelle Bausch Manchester.

Ronald graduated from Fairview High School, class of 1949, and Slippery Rock State Teachers College (now Slippery Rock University) in 1953.  He then earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Buffalo.

He was a dedicated physical education and health teacher, coach, athletic director and administrator in the Millcreek schools for 30 years. Ronald was also a Financial Planner for Waddell and Reed for 15 years.

Toby was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, June Leopold Manchester in April of 2009; his daughter Sue Ellen Manchester Hunt in 2001; his son-in-law Jeffrey Hunt; three sisters: Isabelle World, Eleanor Winnie, and Betty Lou Manchester; and his brothers-in-law: Edward Leopold and Donald Leopold.

He and June were active members of Fairview Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Myers, FL, and attended Hurlbut Methodist Church of Chautauqua, NY. He loved his family, traveling, camping, boating, golfing, bowling, playing cards, music and choir directing, and sang in the Florida Symphony Choir.  The time spent on the lake with his family was a treasure to him and all who shared that special time with him.

Survivors include his son Sidney Manchester and his wife Martha (Marty) of Edinboro; grandchildren Noelle Christina Hunt and her partner Heather Spaid of Glen Allen, VA; Brianne Leigh Hunt Stokes and her husband David of Raleigh, NC; Bethany Lynn Manchester Irwin and her husband Nathan Ray of Edinboro; and Brooke Sydney Manchester Irwin and her husband Ryan Robert of Edinboro; five great grandchildren, Brenden Taylor Manchester, Parker Colden Irwin, Eden Leigh Irwin, Declan Brooks Irwin, and Samuel Zephyr Stokes; two sisters, Wilma Hermansen and husband Floyd, and Nancy Cederlof and husband Jerry, all of Fairview; his sisters-in-law Rosie Tuten and husband Bryan of Millcreek; Elaine Leopold Zula of Fairview; and Sonya Leopold of Erie; brothers-in-law: William Leopold and his wife Dottie of Russells Point, OH; and Ronald Leopold of Lake City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are welcome to call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m., and are invited to a celebration memorial service at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4264 Avonia Road, Fairview, PA on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Charles Cammarata officiating.  A committal service will be held in Union Cemetery, Westfield, NY.
