Ronald M. Johnson, of Fairview, Pa., died Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Ronald was born July 6, 1938, in Jamestown, N.Y., son of the late Reuben and C. Margaret Johnson. He was a long time member of the former Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and present member of Luther Memorial Church. Ron was a partner in Johnson & Flick Tire Service, where he had worked since 1957 until his retirement in 1996.
He was active in the community serving in the Pa. National Guard, the Erie J.C.’s, and Millcreek Lions Club. He also served as a Council member, Treasurer, and Endowment Committee member of the former Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. He also volunteered at the Bethany Outreach site of the Food Bank for many years.
Ronald graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1956, and attended Penn State University. After serving in the Pa. National Guard, he graduated from Erie Business Center with a degree in business administration. He worked at Johnson & Flick Tire Service, becoming a full partner in 1972.
Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy (Nelson) Johnson; three sons, Brian R. Johnson (Carol) of Edinboro, David T. Johnson (Lori) of Sharpsville, Pa., and Mark D. Johnson (Kristy) of Glenmoore, Pa.; sister, Beverly Giles (T. Leslie) of Sunset Beach, N.C.; brother-in-law, David E. Nelson (Payoun) of Santa Maria, Calf.; four grandchildren, Jessie and Katie Johnson of Edinboro and Geoffrey and Alex Johnson of Glenmoore, Pa.; and several aunts, nieces and cousins.
He enjoyed golfing, took pride in his garden, and proudly nurtured a variety of fruit trees for many years. Ron enjoyed his Swedish heritage and traditions and traveled to Sweden with his wife, Judy. They also made trips to Germany, France, Italy, Hawaii and Mexico, and following Ron’s retirement, he and Judy enjoyed many winters in Clearwater, Fla.
Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, and are invited to services there Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. William Coleman, of Luther Memorial Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
