Roman Goergen

Roman M. Goergen, age 97, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Born in Adams, MN on May 23, 1919, he was the son of Peter J. and Anna (Smith) Goergen.

Roman graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Adams, MN and then served in the US Army 45th Infantry during WWII. He retired in 1979 as Supervisor of Erie and Union City Post Offices.

He enjoyed time spent with his family, including boating, fishing, camping and traveling. He was an active member of St. George Church throughout the years; a member of their choir for over 40 years, Eucharistic Minister, a member of The Legion of Mary. He frequently visited Nursing Homes, hospitals and home visits to shut-ins. He was also a member of the Moniuszko Singing Society.

In addition to his parents, Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Demaris Franz Shultz Goergen in 2012 and a brother, George M. Goergen. He is survived by his children; Peter J. (Joann) Goergen of Richmond, VA; Ellen (Jim) Horton of Sommerville, OH; Mary Lou (Bob) Wright of Union City, PA; Mark (Cheryl) Goergen of Wake Forest, NC; and Sue (Joe) Vacanti of Erie, PA. Roman is further survived by his brother, Lawrence (Florence) Goergen of Osage, IA; and sixteen Grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren.

Friends called at the Burton Funeral Home, 602 West 10th Street, on Friday July 1, 2016 from 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm and are invited to attend a service at St. George Church 5145 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16509 Saturday at 9:30 am with Reverend Brandon M. Kleckner officiating. Memorials may be made to St. George Church or St. Joseph Church, Bread of Life Community, 147 West 24th St., Erie PA 16502.
