Roman “Coach Wayne” Boykin, age 62 of Erie, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.
He was born May 27, 1955 in Humbolt, TN, a son of Clara B. Emerson Boykin, and the late Allie D. Boykin.
Roman was a graduate of East High School, and worked as a crane operator for General Electric for 42 years. He loved coaching wrestling and football. He was an umpire for the Erie County Softball League and coached wrestling and football for Academy, Central, Girard and Iroquois High Schools and was also head coach for the TLC Women’s Softball team. He also coached the Booker T. Washington Little Tykes Wrestling League. Roman loved to travel as well.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Marie Bonds Boykin; his children, Anthony Boykin of Erie, Sherita Boykin of Erie, traveling with the U.S. Navy and Marcus Boykin (Zenvi) of Waldorf, MD; five grandchildren, Amara, Savion, Mya, Ava and Aaliyah and great-grandchild, Aidan. Further surviving are his sisters, Clarice Womack of Erie, Carlene Boykin of Erie, Amy Collins (Clifton) of Erie and Alice Boykin of Arlington, TX and his brother, Michael Boykin of Erie.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th St. on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at The Church of Christ, 2317 W. Grandview Blvd, Erie, PA 16509 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service there at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gale Thornton presiding.
