Roberta Thompson

Roberta Marie Thompson, age 91, of Erie, passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 at Pleasant Ridge Manor. 

She was born in McKean on January 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Clarence and Essica Marie Morley Martin. Roberta was a graduate of Glenwood Grade School, Academy High School, 1947, and attended Indiana State Teachers as a freshman. 

She worked for The Record Bar, on State Street. Roberta played violin for the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra and local 17 American Federation of Musicians.  She received Oblate of the Precious Blood in June 1995.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church since 1962, Rosary Society since 1963, and occasionally played violin for the church. 

She enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her family, for the needy, and various charities. Her assignment has been to make handmade scarves, lap robes and other novelties for nursing homes.  

In addition to her parents, Roberta is preceded in death by her husband, Martin H. Thompson, whom she married December 29, 1948 in her parents’ home. In 1998, on their 50th anniversary, they renewed their vows at St. Joseph Church, with Msgr. Biebel officiating. 

She is survived by two daughters, Maura Szymecki and her husband Thomas of Erie, Ellen Artz and her husband Dane Joseph of Belle Valley, a son, Daniel J. Thompson and his wife Florence of Erie; nine grandchildren, Michael and Justin Cummings, Daniel Jr., David, and Gregory Thompson, Christina, Brandy, and Dane Joseph Artz Jr., and Amanda Keil. Roberta is further survived by six great grandchildren, T.J. White, Brandon Cummings, Faith Ann Keil, Samantha Keil, Dane J. Artz III- Farrell, and Jackson Heim. 

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. Downtown 602 West 10^th Street, Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 10:00a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
