Robert Young

Robert Gottlieb Young, 79, formerly of East 31st Street, died on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at St. Mary's East.  He was born on November 5, 1936, in Eden, NY, son of the late Theodore and Doris Rebman Young. 

A 1954 graduate of Eden High School and a U.S. Army veteran, he earned an associate degree in accounting from Bryant and Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo, NY.  He was Vice President and Treasurer of Marquette Savings Bank, retiring in 2002 after 38 years. 

A longtime member of Luther Memorial Church, Mr. Young was a member and past president of Church Council, served as treasurer, communion assistant, lector, and communion caregiver for homebound church members.  He was a former board member of Luther Memorial Academy, served on the board of the Village at Luther Square for over 20 years, served on the board of Supportive Living Services for 25 years, was treasurer and Finance Committee member of the Northwestern PA Synod of the ELCA for 25 years, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Bethany Food Pantry, was a committed blood bank donor reaching his fifteen gallon milestone, member of Erie Maennerchor since 1981 reaching life member status in 2016, was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North East, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eden, NY, where he grew up, and the Erie Kiwanis Club.  Mr. Young was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed camping and golfing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Young and a granddaughter, Julia Young.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia A. Coburn Young; two daughters, Melissa Ream and husband Russell of Virginia Beach, VA and Jennifer C. Young of Erie; two sons, Brent R. Young and companion Sheila Brown of Clarence, NY and Paul T. Young of Erie; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer M. Zebrowski-Young of Lockport, NY; eleven grandchildren, Damian, Samuel, Benjamin, Bryan, Jackson, Mario, Madasyn, Jordon, Brandon, Jessica and Mackenzie; two sisters-in-law, Frances Young of Collins, NY and Carol Emerson of San Jose, CA; and two brothers-in-law, Dennis Coburn and wife Jean of Victorville, CA and Philip Coburn and wife Cheryl of North East, PA.  He is further survived by several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Saturday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street.  A service will be held at Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th Street, Sunday at 3 p.m.  The Rev. William Coleman will officiate.  Military honors will be conducted by the Erie Crawford County Burial Detail.  Private inurnment at Luther Memorial Church Columbarium.
