Robert Emmet Tredway, 70, of Fairview, one of the most loyal “long-suffering” fans of the Cleveland Browns and Indians, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at UPMC Hamot. Just days before his death, Mr. Tredway watched the Indians’ first game of the season and pronounced his “Tribe” ready for competition.
He was born in Erie, on December 17, 1946, a son of the late Dr. John B. and Helena Emmet Tredway. He was a graduate of the High Mowing School in Wilton, New Hampshire, and attended Penn State University.
During his 26 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, Mr. Tredway served in places as near as Cleveland, and as far as Alaska and Antarctica on an ice breaker; before his retirement as Chief Warrant Officer, he lived on Governor’s Island in the shadow of New York City. He was a member of the Chief Petty Officer’s Club and various other military clubs. He was a past member of the Lakeshore Country Club.
Known as Bob to his family and friends, he relished spending entire days tending his flower garden. He also loved doting on various Springer Spaniels who found their way into his home and his heart.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, John B. and William P. Tredway. He is survived by his four children, John B. Tredway and his wife Alexandra of Huron, Ohio, Caroline E. Tredway and Colleen D. Tredway, both of Cleveland, and Mary K. Tredway of Erie; a brother, Philip M. Tredway and his wife Laurie, of Fairview; two sisters, Helena (Nell) T. Hardy of Fairview, and Caroline B. Tredway of Nyack, NY. He has three grandsons, Dempsey Tredway (born on his grandfather’s birthday in 2015), Cash Correll, and Max Campanella. Six nieces and nephews also survive him.
