Robert D. Strain age 78 of Erie, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie, Pa. on July 1, 1935 a son of the late Malcolm and Doris Anderson Strain. He was a graduate of McDowell High School and worked for 33 years with American Sterilizer retiring in 1998. During those years he was very active in the UAW, serving as president for 23 years. He was an international representative all the way till retirement. Bob attended Millcreek Community Church and prior to that served as treasurer in his previous church for 25 years. Bob loved playing with his great grandchildren, gardening, fishing (especially on Dana’s boat), taking cruises and watching old western movies. He was also a closet Browns fan.
In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by two sisters; Patty J. Strain and Joy King. In addition to his wife Nancy of 58 years, Bob is survived by a daughter, Melody Rosenbaum (Andre Tatar), three sons; Dale Strain (Teri), Dana Strain and Darren Strain (Ellen Danowski). His sisters Lu An Adamczyk (Louis) and Dianne Flick (Jerry) also remain along with five grandchildren; Megan Trippi (Adam), Robert Strain (Berta), Matthew Ciccotti (Myriah), Jonathan Strain (Megan) and Syngine Strain. Great- grandchildren; Michaela, Tyler, Sadie, Lauren and Leila also remain.
Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) today Monday, from 7:00 pm till 9:00 pm and on Tuesday from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm till the time of service there at 8:00 pm with Reverend James Hodges officiating. Chuck Adamczyk will also assist in the service. Burial will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Millcreek Community Church for the Missions Program 4444 Sterrettania Rd. Erie, Pa. 16506.
