Robert E. “Bob” Sidman, age 83, of Millcreek, passed away, on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Fairview Manor.
Bob was born in Corry, PA on February 3, 1933 a son of the late Wilbur and Agnes Smith Sidman.
He graduated from Strong Vincent High School and earned his Associates Degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State University. He served in the United States Army as a Corporal from April of 1953 until March of 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He traveled to the Soviet Union with an organization of public works professionals in 1991 to share his expertise with Urban Planning. He was a certified land surveyor for Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. Bob worked for Millcreek Township as Zoning Code Administrator and Township Engineer, retiring in 1995 after 39 years of service.
He was a member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club, the American Legion Millcreek Post # 0773 and Lakewood United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee. He enjoyed fishing, boating, white water rafting, reading, woodworking and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Sidman.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Violet (Gray) Sidman, who he married on August 15, 1953, a daughter, Kathleen Sidman Thais of Waterford, PA, a son, John R. “Jack” Sidman of Erie and three granddaughters, Ashley Thais Eastman and Lindsey (Nicholas Rounds) Thais both of Waterford and Amanda Sidman of Erie. He is further survived by two great-grandchildren, Jackson Thais and Amelia Rounds and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506 on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 3856 West 10th Street, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Reverend Bob Lewis officiating.
Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
