Robert L. Ryen, age 80, of Fairview, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Gipsy, PA on January 21, 1937, a son of the late Harvey and Hazel Buchanan Ryen.
After high school, Robert served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Robert was a foreman at PHB (previously Parker White Metal), retiring in 1998 after 40+ years of service.
Bob was a great conversationalist with an old school approach to life. He cared for his yard and home, enjoyed sports and playing golf. He “walked” across Europe at age 75! He was also a Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. But most of all he was very loyal to his family, and adored his two granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister: Harry, Chuck, Pete, and Ethel Gae.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Norma Cesnick Ryen; three children: Bob (Sandy) Ryen of Northern Virginia, David (Lizzy) Ryen of New York City and Trish (Pat) Fortune of Pittsburgh; two granddaughters, Olivia and Alexandra Fortune and a sister, Eleanor Peterson. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Avenue) on Thursday March 2 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. until a time of sharing at 6:45 p.m. Burial will occur at a future date in Frye Cemetery, in Glen Campbell, PA.
