Robert Eugene Powell

Robert Eugene Powell, age 96, died at his Millcreek home on February 14, 2025.

He was born at home on May 18, 1928, in Albion Pennsylvania to Gerald and Thora Strong Powell.

Growing up in Albion, he loved fishing with his father, playing mush ball with his school friends and roller skating at Shadeland. He enjoyed playing with his dog, “Minnie the Moocher’” and eating pie that his grandmother baked for Hazel Brown’s restaurant. When he was a teenager, he accepted Christ as his Savior and Lord.

Robert graduated from Albion High School in 1946 and attended Gannon College. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh and enjoyed listening to Charles Bebe play the pipe organ at Kathryn Kuhlman’s meetings. He graduated from Grove City College in 1950 and married the love of his life, Donna Locke. They were married for 72 years.

Bob and Donna were members of the Federated Church where he served on the board and worked on the bus ministry. Robert was a founding member of the Board of Regents of Oral Roberts University from 1963-1977. He also served on the boards of Youth for Christ and Full Gospel Businessmen. He worked his entire life for his grandfather’s business, Strong Mobile Homes.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Donna and his brother Richard.

He leaves behind his daughter, Connie (Edward) Huntley and Joni (James) Morgan; his sister Gerrie Blose; his grandson Seth (Jennifer) Huntley and great grandchildren Katherine and Drew Huntley. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Family and friends are invited to the calling hours at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard, PA on Monday, February 17th from 3 PM until the time of service at 7 PM, officiated by his son-in-law, Rev. Ed Huntley. Burial in East Springfield will be private.
