Robert Nuber

July 13, 1945 — February 24, 2019

Robert G. “Bear” Nuber, age 73, passed away Sunday February 24, 2019, at the V. A. Medical Center- Erie, following a lengthy illness.


He was born in Fort Benning, GA on July 13, 1945, son of the late Robert J. and Eula Morgan Nuber. He graduated from Erie Tech High School and was a very proud veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp. where he served two tours of service in Vietnam as a Platoon Sergeant. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service and worked at Mercyhurst College (now University). He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.


Bear loved sports, and especially coaching.  He coached Little League and Pony League in Millcreek, the semi-pro football team the Erie Jets, coached church basketball, and achieved his dream of coaching college football at Mercyhurst College, where he also coached Women’s Softball.  Bear was an avid Notre Dame and New York Yankees fan, enjoyed fishing with friends and was a coin and gun collector. He was very active in the Veteran’s Affairs programs.


Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother William Nuber and a sister Rita Nuber.


Robert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra Green Nuber; his children David Nuber and his wife Dana of WA, Krista Wooten and her husband Doug of TX, daughter Heather Nuber of IN and daughter Robin Nuber of TX. He is further survived by grandchildren; Aurelia Jorden (Matt), Bradley Nuber, Macy Nuber, Carson Nuber, Dallas Wooten, Tayte Nuber and Memphis Wooten and two great-grandchildren Everest and Ember Jorden. Further surviving are sisters Dorothy Gabbard, Mary Swiderski and Margaret Grossi, brother Joseph Nuber, and many nieces and nephews.


Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and are invited to the service on Friday at 11 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church  3642 West 26th Street Erie 16506.


Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.


The family would like to thank the staff at the V. A Medical Center for the loving and compassionate care Bear received during his stay there.
