Robert Mangan

Robert P. Mangan, age 93, of Erie died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Manchester Commons. He was born on May 13, 1923 in Cumberland, MD the son of the late Mark and Celia Motley Mangan. Robert was a 1941 graduate of Cathedral Prep and served in the Army Air Corp during WW II. Bob had worked for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Employment as a veteran’s  employee representative until his retirement in 1985. He also served with  the US Coast Guard Reserve and held the rank of Senior Chief Boatswain Mate. Bob loved the water and enjoyed sailing, and also volunteering to operate the pontoon boats at the lagoons for the DCNR. He held memberships with the SONS of Lake Erie, the 843rd Bombardier group, and also was an usher at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. His true love was following the activities of his family and grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Maley Mangan; two brothers, Jack and attorney Thomas Mangan, and a grandson, Robert.
He is survived by his three daughters; Wendy Martin and her husband Thomas, Anne Lynch and her husband Christopher, and Christine Matheis and her husband George, all of Erie. He is the grandfather of Thomas, Amy, Julia, and Connor.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Friday at 1:00 PM followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:30 PM in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
