Robert Laird

Robert L.  Laird, age 92, of Erie, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on June 13, 1929, in Union City, the son of the late Ralph and Maude Harmon Laird.

He was a graduate of Academy High School, Class of 1947. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Macon 132. Prior to his retirement he was a Supervisor at Penelec/GPU Energy for 44 years. He was a member and past trustee of Glenwood United Methodist Church, a member of Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, a Life Member of Lawrence Lodge No.  708, F & A.M., and Zem Zem Temple Shrine, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Erie, where he was a past sovereign prince 32° and active member of the Erepa Grotto.  He was a life member and served as past president of the Zukor Club, and was a member of the Elks, Siebenburger and the Bonita Springs Shrine Club and was past president the Shrine Noble Travelers of Bonita Springs, Florida.  He also sponsored the Shrine softball Team at Citrus Park in Bonita Springs, Florida for many years.  He joined the YMCA in September 1943 and was a lifetime member.  He also enjoyed working on the annual membership drives for many years.  He was also a life member of the Times Old Newsies, the Erie Lion’s Club, the American Legion Post 11 and the Erie Zoological Society.  Mr. Laird volunteered at the ErieVetsHospital, the Erie Gifts for Kids and was a Boy Scout Master of Troop 28 for many years. Bob and his loving wife Millie were married on September 30^th, 1950, and celebrated 71 wonderful and loving years together.

In addition to his wife, Mildred “Millie” V. Hinspeter Laird, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Brenda S. Laird, two brothers, Ronald and Gerald Laird and two sisters, Florence Laird and Lola Lovejoy.
