Robert R. Helmbrecht, age 90, of West Springfield, passed away on Friday September 6, 2024, at Fairview Manor.
He was born in North Springfield on March 2, 1934, a son of the late Frank and Georgia Gasch Helmbrecht. He was a graduate of West Springfield High School and after serving in the US Navy, worked for ESAB, now known as Dow Chemical for 33 years. He was a member of the Federated Church where he served as a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, an usher for over 40 years and served in the media ministry. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, golfing with John, and gardening with Daniel. Also enjoyed restoring autos, and carpentry having built 2 houses. Robert was an avid bowler for over 30 years and achieved one perfect game!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Elaine Merritt and Laverna Steiner.
Robert is survived by his wife Carol Black Helmbrecht, they were married on June 29, 1957, and his sons: John Robert (Linda) Helmbrecht and Daniel James Helmbrecht, and grandchildren: Nicole (Ethan) Vasko, Megan (Shavar) Bailey, and Rachel Helmbrecht and great grandchildren Mia Grillo, and Noah, Aliyah, Selah Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Federated Church on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00am until the time of service at 12:00pm. Burial to follow at Springfield Cemetery.
