Robert “Bob” DiFonzo age 88, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Facility.
Born August 28, 1934, in Bradford, PA he was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alma and his brother Angelo.
He is survived by his wife Agnes; his children, Chris DiFonzo of Williamston, MI, Jimothi DiFonzo (Helen) of Reading, Pa and Nick DiFonzo (Teresa O’Connor) of Houston, TX; his sister, Rose Costanzo of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Rose DiFonzo of Westminster, MD and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Bradford High School, Bob served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956, then attended Lock Haven University, where he was proudly a member of the undefeated football team of 1957. Nicknamed “Little train”, football coach Hubert Jack referred to Bob as one of the toughest pound-for-pound football players he had ever seen. Bob was State Teachers Honorable Mention in 1955; Second Team State Teachers in 1957; Pennsylvania All State Honorable Mention 1957; First Team State Teachers 1958; and Little All American Honorable Mention. He was inducted into the Lock Haven Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
Bob Taught physical education and was head football and track coach at Franklinville Central School in Franklinville, NY, where he started a wrestling program and coached wrestling for 6 years. From 1966-1968 he taught physical education and health at Cathedral Prep where he also was an assistant football and track coach. After teaching and coaching at Westlake Middle School, he retired after 30 years of teaching.
Bob’s favorite things were football, working in the woods with his chainsaw, and attending live horse racing.
