Robert Dietly

Robert Kramer Dietly age 92 of Erie, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Forest View Skilled Nursing Center. He was born in Erie, PA on December 26, 1923 a son of the late Uras and Magdalena Kramer Dietly. After his graduation from Strong Vincent High School in 1941 he served in the 104th Infantry, 26th Division during WWII where he was captured and held as a prisoner of war. Following the end of hostilities he received his degree in engineering from Case Western Reserve and then married Patricia Strickler Dietly. He worked in many capacities over the years most recently as an investment Manager for PNC Bank retiring in 1984. Following retirement he enjoyed all sports but mostly golf, tennis, skiing, hiking, bowling, biking and also enjoyed wood carving. Robert was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where he served as an elder, deacon and trustee many years. He was also a member of the Erie Cemetery Board and Sarah A. Reed Children’s Home Board. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Richard and Uras Dietly. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons; David Dietly (Patricia) of Mclean, VA and Kevin Dietly of Somerville, MA. Three grandchildren also remain; Matthew, Abigail and Megan Dietly. Friends may call on the family at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Parlor Room 250 West 7th Street, Erie, PA 16501 on Friday from 10:00 am till the time of a memorial Service in McBrier Chapel at 11:00 am with Reverend Tim High officiating. Inurnment at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.
