Robert Fitzgerald Crotty passed away in his sleep on October 29, 2024. Born in Erie on June 2, 1964, he was one of seven children to the late Patrick Edward Crotty, Sr. and Wilma Tess Crotty. Bob graduated from East High/Tech HS and resided for over 30 years in the Dr. Gertrude Barber Center group home in Lake City, PA. He worked happily in their local workshops in Erie and Lake City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and favorite sister, Mary Graves.
Bob is survived by his Pennsylvania brother Pat Jr. (Cathy), Pennsylvania brother Dan, Florida brother Rich (Marty), Japan/Hawaii sister Tess, and North Carolina sister Sue. He was beloved by his nieces and nephews Bridget, Katie, Adele, Marci, Damyan, Andre, and John. Also, cousins and extended family, many from the Lawrence Park area.
With his passion for music, Bob could always be found listening to John Denver, Kenny Rodgers, or Willie Nelson, and singing along using his karaoke machine. Influenced by his mother’s love for movies and musicals, some favorites were Grease, Pretty Woman, and anything with John Wayne. You could always get a smile from Bob when talking about summers at Camp Fitch riding horses, the Washington Redskins, Spiderman, and Curious George.
Bob was a positive force in his family and among everyone he met. His welcoming humor and sarcasm made him a favorite at any gathering, his favorite events being dances at the Barber Center and Christmas with family (including sister-in-law, Mary Catherine). Bob was also involved in the Special Olympics and was an enthusiastic bowler.
Bob’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the Dr. Gertrude Barber Center for the loving and consistent care and support provided to him from the early days of his life until his passing. The Barber Center made it possible for Bob, and his entire family, to feel safe and involved in his care. Words cannot adequately express our appreciation. Every member of his team was instrumental in making Bob’s years healthy and happy, especially Rick, Judie, Jenelle, Ashley, and Samantha. The family would ask that you consider a donation to the Barber Center in lieu of flowers. We are especially thankful for the care and concern of UPMC Hamot’s hospice team members Stacy and Kathleen.
One of Bob’s most memorable sayings was “I love everyone.” He will be remembered as a positive, unique spark in every life he touched.
A memorial service is being planned for a future date; announcement of the details will be made in advance.
