Robert Alonzo Butler, age 66 went to sleep in the Lord at home on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Erie, PA on August 1, 1948 a son of the late Josephine Butler and Willie Tanker.
Robert was a graduate of Tech Memorial High School and worked for Erie Malleable Iron until the name was changed to Gunite Manufacturing for 29 years. The company closed and Robert went to Tri-State. He was on the Dean’s list 3 times and graduated after an 18 months program in Data Bases. He attended the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ and was baptized in Jesus name. He loved his family very much and loved to cook, barbeque, gardening and fishing. He also oved to help people, he would take the shirt off his back to put it on someone who needed it. He will be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alphonso and Randolph Butler and a sister, Marilyn Porter.
In addition to his lovely wife Shirley of 42 years, he is survived by his three daughters, Tyra, Tamika and Taleda Butler, all of Erie; four grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; his sisters, Venola Clanton, Viola Butler, Christine Poe and husband James and brothers, Merrill Poston and Randy P. Davis and wife Gracie.
Friends may call at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ 1962 Buffalo Road on Tuesday from 4pm to 8 pm and are invited to attend services there on Wednesday at 11 am Eulogy with the Bishop Asa Jones, Sr. presiding.
Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street.
