Robert Justin Boyd, age 39, of Fairview and previously of Fairfax, VA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 26, 2015.
Born on December 19, 1975, and raised in Erie, he was the beloved son of Robert and the late Emma Jane Sloan Boyd.
Robert graduated from McDowell High School in 1994 and attended West Virginia University, where he earned his B.A. in Communication Studies and M.A. in Education.
He is survived by his father, Robert W. Boyd and his wife, Linda Dout McFarland; his wife Stacie Boyd of Fairfax, VA; a brother, Jason Boyd of Seattle, WA; a sister, Allison Barnum of Harborcreek; two nephews: Brendon and Austin Heyd; father-in-law John Higgins, mother-in-law Debra Higgins, and sister-in-law Shannon Higgins of Savannah, GA; dear friends Abby Matz, Caryn Chiota, and Kathy Falbo of Erie, as well as many childhood friends.
Justin was employed as a research analyst for the Society for Human Resources Management in Alexandria, VA and Worldwide ERC in Arlington, VA. Prior to that, Justin worked as a fitness specialist and personal trainer. He was very popular at the gyms he worked at including Georgetown Law Fitness Center in Washington, D.C. and Lifetime Fitness in Columbus, OH. He inspired a myriad of people with his love of fitness.
He adored his dogs, Emma, Poncho, and Lola. Justin enjoyed going to the gym and was an avid Steelers and West Virginia football fan. He loved movies, dancing, music, playing the guitar, and visiting Tybee Island. He had an incredible knack for connecting with people of all ages and all walks of life. Justin was a kind and gentle soul, remembered for his compassion towards others, witty personality, and smile that lights up a room. His presence will be deeply missed by many.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4264 Avonia Rd., on February 7, 2015 at 3:00 with luncheon to follow. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511. Arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard.
