Rita Polon

Rita (Zatkoff)  Polon, age 95, of Erie passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at Bickford of Presque Isle. She was born on June 29, 1928 in Erie the daughter of the late Harry (Lazer) and Esther (Evans) Zatkoff.

A lifelong resident of Erie, Rita had worked in the cafeteria of the Millcreek School district when her children attended there and then worked for Erie Insurance. She later retired from Erie’s General Electric plant. She was a member of the Russian Orthodox Old Believers Church of the Holy Trinity and enjoyed following the activities of her children and their families.

Besides her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred (Babe) Polon who died in 1977 along with her siblings; infants Maria Ann and Johnny Zatkoff; Saundra (Shenia) Koscelnik, Harry and Paul Zatkoff.

Rita is survived by her three children; Harry A. Polon and his wife Linda of Conneaut Lake, PA; Arlene Onorato of Erie; and Ronald Polon and his wife Sandy of Peoria, AZ. She is the sister of Frasha Evanoff of Erie and the grandmother of Lisa Onorato, Kara Onorato, and Casey Polon. Also surviving are six great -grandchildren; Andrew, Abby, Kaylei, Alissa, Rachel, and Luca along with several nieces and nephews.

Rita’s family would like to thank the staffs of AseraCare Hospice and Bickford at Presque Isle for the wonderful care and compassion shown to their mother while under their care.

There will be no visitation and Funeral Services will be private with burial in St. John the Divine Cemetery.
