Richard Theodore Volgstadt, age 72, of McKean, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born in Titusville, PA on October 23, 1945 a son of the late George and Elizabeth Becker Volgstadt.
Richard was a Graduate of McDowell High School. He was self-employed as a Building Contractor retiring after 45 years of owning his own contracting business.
Richard loved his family wholeheartedly; his wife, children and grandchildren. He was fun loving and always thinking of his grandchildren.
He had a very strong faith and helped others throughout his life. Richard volunteered for many organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the DMAT, SMAT and CERT teams. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross, being deployed for both Hurricane Sandy and Matthew and in Canada to fight wildfires. He was member of Gideons International for over seventeen years, speaking for many of those years at the Edmund Thomas Center. He was also a volunteer at the Erie City Mission for over seventeen years and a Volunteer Firefighter for the West Ridge Fire Department for ten years attaining the rank of Lieutenant.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by twin-brother Robert Volgstadt (at age 5), and two other brothers Gerald and George Volgstadt.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Kathleen Heubel Volgstadt, three daughters, Sherri Volgstadt of Erie, Kimberly Knappenberger (Lon) of Westfield, NY and Tracie Minner (Ian) of McKean, twelve grandchildren, Nathaniel, Christopher, Danielle, Zachary, Gabrielle, Emmanuelle, Noah, Elijah, Angelle, Halle, Olivia and Caleb, a sister, Carolyn Bebko and a brother, Ronald Volgstadt, both of Erie and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506 on Wednesday December 6th, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, December 7th, 2017 from 10:00a.m. until the time of service there at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of the Burton Westlake Funeral Home.
