Richard F. Veith, age 92, of Erie, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie, Pa. on November 16, 1921, a son of the late Fred and Bertha Schmidt Veith. Richard was a graduate of Cathedral Preparatory High School before training in the General Electric Apprentice Program. Richard served during WWII in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Richard P. Leary as a Fireman First Class. He was self-employed for many years in the family business, Fred W. Veith Plumbing and Heating. He enjoyed tinkering around the house, playing pinochle with his sons and fishing. In addition to his wife, Elaine Puscher Veith, and his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters; Bob, Marie, Audrey, Anita, Dorothy, Fred, Bill, Marcella, and Jim. Richard is survived by two sons; Scott Veith and his wife Kathy of Erie, Tom Veith and his wife Michelle of Winter Park, Fla., three daughters; Emily McBryde and her husband Lawry , Patty Conboy and Mary Sibley and her husband Denny all of Erie. Richard also leaves 13 grandchildren; John, Colleen, Jason, Scott, Alex, Laura, Kimberly, Thomas, Christopher, Gabby, Hunter, Nicholas and Logan along with four great grandchildren; twins, Kieran and Evalene and Isla and Austin. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call on Monday at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, from 4:00 pm till 8:00 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 816 West 26th Street, Erie, Pa. 16508 on Tuesday at 10:00 am with Father George Strohmeyer officiating. Burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256 or Cathedral Preparatory School, 225 W 9th St, Erie, PA 16501.
