Richard Spensley

August 17, 1926 — March 21, 2014

Richard A. Spensley, age 87, of Erie, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at Forestview.

He was born in Cincinnati, OH on August 17, 1926, a son of the late Clarence L. and Naomi K. Spensley.

Richard graduated from Central Vocational High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1946, after which he served in the US Navy. He received a degree from Miami University of Ohio in 1950 and earned a General Electric Business Management Degree in 1953.

He worked as a system analyst for General Electric in Schenectady, NY from 1950-1952; in Louisville, KY from 1953-1954, and in Erie, PA from 1954 until retirement.

He was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was a volunteer for Kids Café, Therapeutic Riding of Erie County, VIP Program, Boy Scouts, and American Cancer Society. He loved his family, travel, golfing, skiing, biking, and breakfast picnics at the beach.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley A. Rock; a brother, Charles R. Spensley; and two nephews, David and Patrick Spensley.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn L. Spensley; two daughters, Jaylene Jouver and her husband William and Gail Spensley and her husband Don Arnold; one son Lynn Spensley and his wife Erika de Papp; grandchildren, Amy Bowser, Ashley Kennedy and Allison Leaker; and four great grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Wayside Presbyterian Church at 1208 Asbury Road Erie, PA 16505 on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Keith Sundburg and Rev. James Haas officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
